Sketches (Vortex), 2007
charcoal on Strathmore paper
various dimensions

Vortex defines a spiraling movement becoming smaller and converging to a point. This idea is particularly visible in the charcoal drawings, which served as a starting point towards the construction of the final image. I used these compositions along with the physicality of the wood to construct a more complex work where the movement of the vortex is present but not overwhelming and unidimensional. The Photoshop sketches were also important to see the three shapes in relation with one another in order to make sure the final composition would work as a whole.
